AK Steel has announced that it will increase base prices for all 200, 300 and 400 series flat rolled stainless steel products, effective with shipments on March 4th 2012. AK Steel said that this increase will be achieved through a reduction in the functional discount of two percentage points for cold rolled and hot rolled products. Base prices of automotive exhaust grades and bright anneal finishes will increase by USD 0.04 per pound. All raw material surcharges for stainless steel products, including those for materials under .015 inch thickness, will remain in effect. Japan secondary al alloy makers try to keep ingot price in Jan Japanese major secondary aluminum alloy makers including Daiki Aluminum Industry aim to keep the alloy selling price unchanged for January shipment. The alloy makers expect the price is supported by bottom hitting domestic aluminum scrap market price and rebound of overseas primary aluminum market price. The alloy price negotiations with alloy users, mainly automotive component makers will almost close next week. The alloy price lowered by JPY 2 per kilogram to JPY 3 per kilogram for December shipment when aluminum scrap market price was weak. In the second week of January, primary aluminum price at London Metal Exchange strongly surged and Japanese aluminum scrap market prices hit bottom for major alloy makers' January procurement. The alloy users of automotive component makers request additional JPY 2 to JPY 3 price down for January shipment. They emphasize cheaper alloy import prevails at around JPY 190 per kilogram. The secondary aluminum alloy shipment is likely to maintain steady for automotive industry. Japanese automakers show output increase plans for January to March. An official of Japanese major secondary aluminum alloy maker said that the company's alloy production will increase by 10% for January March compared with October to December.
